Ravenswood Mansion & A Walk in the Park

9"x12" Oil on Canvas
with Palette Knife
FOR AUCTION

Lately, I've been working on some paintings to benefit Brentwood Green Space, an organization that exists to help citizens manage community growth while maintaining and preserve parks and green areas. This house, "Ravenswood", is a restored home in Smith Park. The home is now a venue for special events. Behind the home are miles of beautiful park trails.

This painting will be on display at the Brentwood Library through October 30th. There is an auction to purchase the painting at BrentwoodGreenSpace.com. The painting will then be awarded to the highest bidder  at the special event, A Walk in the Park, at Smith Park on October 30, from 1 to 5 PM.

As a bonus to all of the hayrides, pumpkin decorating, live music , BBQ and sweets, I will be selling paintings in the Ravenswood mansion. Some of the paintings are scenes from Smith Park trails. Be on the lookout for new paintings to come.

God in the Storm

Psalm 29

The Voice of God in a Great Storm

A Psalm of David.

Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory of his name;
    worship the Lord in holy splendor.
The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
    the God of glory thunders,
    the Lord, over mighty waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.
The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
    the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon skip like a calf,
    and Sirion like a young wild ox.
The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
    the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
The voice of the Lord causes the oaks to whirl,
    and strips the forest bare;
    and in his temple all say, “Glory!”
10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
    the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
11 May the Lord give strength to his people!
    May the Lord bless his people with peace!

The Word Made Flesh / God Poured Out

9"x12" Oil on Panel
with Palette Knife
SOLD

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it…
…And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:1-5, 14

“who, though he was in the form of God,
 did not regard equality with God
 as something to be exploited, but emptied himself,
 taking the form of a slave,
 being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself
 and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross. Therefore God also highly exalted him
 and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus
 every knee should bend,
 in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess
 that Jesus Christ is Lord,
 to the glory of God the Father.”  —Philippians 2:6-11

This year’s art conceptualizes the beautiful mystery of God blending with creation. It is an abstract mixing of power and humility, order and chaos, light and dark. For me, “The Word Made Flesh” could also be described as “God Poured Out.” In Jesus, the grace of God poured into creation like a waterfall of sacrificial love. This Advent season let the mystery pour over you. Allow grace to mix with your life. May the unpredictable Word overflow in you heart.

Dune Lake

Seven Days on 30-A: Day 3

On day 3, we ventured out for a nature walk at Camp Hellen. I spent the morning by a rare dune lake. It was so quiet and peaceful. My only companion was a Mullet skipping about the water.
If you ever get a chance to get away from the beaches and explore the state parks, you will be in for a real treat. There is so much beauty to enjoy besides the beaches.

It Is Well with My Soul

9"x12" Oil on Canvas
with Palette Knife
SOLD

Here is another installment of my abstract series based on Christian hymns. This song has a very moving story behind it. You can read about it by clicking here.

It Is Well with My Soul
Horatio G. Spafford

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,
Even so, it is well with my soul.

It is well, with my soul,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
